چکیده

The combined laser model based on transmission line laser mode (TLLM) is extended to investigate intensity modulation (IM) response and frequency modulation (FM) response of SGDBR lasers in this paper. While carrier-depended refraction index, spontaneous emission noise and their coupling are included in the consequent dynamic frequency shift and intensity fluctuation can reflect dynamics of SGDBR lasers in more real circumstances. Simulation results indicate that direct modulation bandwidth increases as bias current increases in IM. Frequency chirp in small signal IM and the fluctuation of output optical power in FM are also discussed.

Widely tunable directly modulated sampled-grating DBR lasers

We report on the experimental results obtained for direct intensity modulation of widely tunable sampled-grating distributed Bragg-reflector (SGDBR) lasers. These devices operate in the C-band (1525 – 1562 nm range) and are directly modulated with analog and digital signals. The results obtained show a 6-GHz small-signal bandwidth, and an undistorted EyePattern for a NRZ signal modulation with ...

Sampled-Grating DBR Laser-Based Analog Optical Transmitters

Sampled-grating distributed Bragg grating (SGDBR) laser-based widely tunable optical transmitters are investigated for application in high-performance analog links. More than 45 nm tuning range, 40 dB sidemode suppression ratio, and peak relative intensity noise below 153 dB/Hz is measured. SGDBR lasers integrated with semiconductor optical amplifiers and electroabsorption modulators (EAMs) are...

Monolithic tunable lasers for low cost DWDM networks

Low-cost tunable lasers are key enablers for next-generation dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) based access and metro networks. At present, tunable lasers are mostly deployed in long-haul optical transmission systems due to their high cost resulting from fabrication and operation complexity for structures such as sampled grating distributed Bragg reflector (SGDBR) [1,2]. For wide de...

High-Speed Concatenation of Frequency Ramps Using Sampled Grating Distributed Bragg Reflector Laser Diode Sources for OCT Resolution Enhancement

Wavelength tunable sampled grating distributed Bragg reflector (SG-DBR) lasers used for telecommunications applications have previously demonstrated the ability for linear frequency ramps covering the entire tuning range of the laser at 100 kHz repetition rates. An individual SG-DBR laser has a typical tuning range of 50 nm. The InGaAs/InP material system often used with SG-DBR lasers allows fo...

Fast Reconfigurable SOA-Based Wavelength Conversion of Advanced Modulation Format Data "2279

We theoretically analyze the phase noise transfer issue between the pump and the wavelength-converted idler for a nondegenerate four-wave mixing (FWM) scheme, as well as study the vector theory in nonlinear semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs), in order to design a polarization-insensitive wavelength conversion system employing dual co-polarized pumps. A tunable sampled grating distributed B...
